Article Processing Charges
Article Processing Charge (APC):

Payment of the APC fee (directly to the publisher) by the author or a funding body is not required until AFTER the manuscript has gone through the full double-blind peer review process and the Editor(s)-in-Chief at his/her/their full discretion has/have decided to accept the manuscript based on the results of the double-blind peer review process.

What Does IGI Global's Open Access APC Cover?

In the traditional subscription-based model, the cost to the publisher to produce each article is covered by the revenue generated by journal subscriptions. Under OA, all the articles are published under a Creative Commons (CC BY) license; therefore, the authors or funding body will pay a one-time article processing charge (APC) to offset the costs of all of the activities associated with the publication of the article manuscript, including:

  • Digital tools used to support the manuscript management and review process
  • Typesetting, formatting and layout
  • Online hosting
  • Submission of the journal's content to numerous abstracts, directories, and indexes
  • Third-party software (e.g. plagiarism checks)
  • Editorial support which includes manuscript tracking, communications, submission guideline checks, and communications with authors and reviewers
  • All promotional support and activities which include metadata distribution, press releases, promotional communications, web content, ads, fliers, brochures, postcards, etc. for the journal and its published contents
  • The fact that all published articles will be freely accessible and able to be posted and disseminated widely by
    the authors
  • Professional line-by-line English language copy editing and proofreading*

*This service is only performed on article manuscripts with fully paid (not discounted or waived) APC fees.

APC Subsidizing and Funding

To assist researchers in covering the costs of the APC in OA publishing, there are various sources of OA funding. Additionally, unlike many other publishers, IGI Global offers flexible subsidies, 100% Open Access APC funding, discounts, and more. Learn More

Reviews & Statements

It is a truism that information systems are enablers for services which are based on information. However, understanding and designing this intricate link between services and information system is still a challenge. It is the strength of IJISSS that it explicitly focuses on publishing a scale of up-to-date research with impact on this area that reaches from strategic issues to technological implementation aspects."

– Dr. Rainer Alt, Full Professor, Information Systems Institute, University of Leipzig, Germany

The journal is progressing from strength to strength in terms of academic visibility and recognition by scholars in the field. This can be seen in the caliber of the papers published, number of submissions, as well as citations. I can envisioning a good, solid future for this academic outlet!

– Professor Luiz Moutinho, Founding Editor, Journal of Modelling in Management (JM2), Business School, University of Glasgow, UK

IJISSS meets well with the technical requirements of fast growing modern service industry. It is becoming an exciting forum for my group and myself to find original innovations and groundbreaking works on service systems, technologies and applications. I'm proud of being an editor of IJISSS. I will try my hard to contribute and make it a great success.

– Dr. Yinsheng Li, Director, Institute of e-Business, Software School, Fudan University, China

IJISSS extends the knowledge of information management systems and development methodology through the study of advanced technologies in services computing. IJISSS examines the current IS research issues in order to provide the readers an integrative perspective of information management systems and services computing in an emerging context.

– Patrick C. K. Hung, Associate Professor, Faculty of Business and IT, University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Canada

Industrial competition is facing a paradigm shift: Borders between physical products and services are dissolving. Profit margins of physical products are decreasing while profit margins of corresponding services are rising. Service companies, themselves, are facing more and more competition. As a reaction to this, physical products, software and services are being offered more and more as interwoven packages. Companies have to develop and foster corresponding capabilities and IS research can offer valuable guidance and insights for developing competitive advantages in this fast growing field. This journal offers an opportunity for researchers to discuss key issues that cross these areas. Companies should read this journal carefully.

– Dr. Jan Marco Leimeister, Technische Universität München, Munich, Germany

I find this project very interesting and needed as coming from the tourism sector (the largest service sector worldwide), there is a need for a good journal to cover IS and (travel-tourism) services.

– Marianna Sigala, University of the Aegean, Greece

The increasing importance of services makes the International Journal of Information Systems in the Service Sector the perfect vehicle to present, analyze and discuss new ideas and models of communication systems for service providers. These could be developed for large companies working on service components and to organise the customer/provider interface, but also for the communication between companies participating in the increasing numbers of virtual firms.

– Juergen Gnoth, University of Otago, New Zealand

The International Journal of Information Systems in the Service Sector (IJISSS) attempts to address issues of services from various perspectives. I believe that such a journal would serve as the main forum for researchers working on various aspects related to information systems and supply chain networks.

– Justin Zhan, Carnegie Mellon University, USA

This journal would be an indispensable 'bridge' between academic Information Systems research and the fast-growing, highly-industrialized Service Sector.

– Peng Liu, Center for Information Assurance - Pennsylvania State University, USA

There has been a rising need of effective use of information systems for managing the increasingly sophisticated built facilities. The journal provides a platform where the academics and practitioners can share their research findings and experience in this niche area

– Joseph Lai, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong

In the 21st century, modern technologies continue to become more complex as do the applications. The integration of the technologies, the complex relationships of the applications and also the accelerated pace of technological change all present new challenges to technology management. Topics such as product development, innovation management, and research and development management have become very popular. Companies have been interested in optimizing their development activities. However the focus has been mostly the actual physical product rather than the services. There has been little attention paid to design of services around the technologies coming out of today's high tech giants. This journal will help focus in this field opening a frontier for the researchers.

– Tugrul U Daim, Portland State University, USA

I am very interested to see this new journal that looks like it will bridge some much needed gaps.

– Karen B. Eden, Oregon Health & Science University, USA
