Editor/Author Biographies
Jesús Enrique Portillo Pizaña has served as the Dean of the Research, Innovation, Social Development and Entrepreneurship Division of Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Ciudad Juárez since 2011. He is also a Board member for Mesa de Seguridad y Justicia de Ciudad Juárez (Security and Justice Council for Ciudad Juárez), Fortalessa (Center for the Strengthening of Non-Governmental Organizations), The Hub of Human Innovation at El Paso Tx., and CONREDES (Industry and Academy organization that integrate Research, Innovation and Talent Development in Ciudad Juárez), Energy Cluster, Artificial Intelligence Cluster, Logistics and International Commerce Cluster, Medical Tourism Cluster, Red Juarez Emprende (entrepreneurship Cluster), among others. He received his Doctor in Business Administration with a Marketing Concentration in 2003 from Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Ciudad de México in coordination with the Kennan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina. Dr. Portillo’s areas of expertise are in Strategic Marketing and Customer Development, Services Marketing, Research Methodology, Positioning and Branding, Organizational Architecture Innovation, and Entrepreneurship.
Sergio Ortiz Valdés is a scholar interested in entrepreneurship and international business. He has helped several ideas to become new companies, some of them high tech companies, he is cofounder of two technology base companies. Dr. Ortiz has started and developed the entrepreneurship research program in Tecnológico de Monterrey, designing, organizing and implementing a special PhD program focusing in entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education. Dr. Ortiz has been part of the different Mexican delegations representing Mexico in international affairs, like the North America Committee, Mexico-Europe bi-National committee, China-Mexico bi-National Committee, Mexico China high level group. Dr. Sergio Ortiz has participated in different consultancy projects with several companies in fields related with innovation. Dr. Ortiz has been Dean of Business School in Monterrey Tech, Mexico State Campus, and Director of the Technological Entrepreneurship Program in Monterrey Campus. He also worked as a Financial Analyst and Economic Analyst for the Mexican Central Bank. Dr. Ortiz is economist with MBA in Tecnológico de Monterrey, Master of International Management in Thunderbird University, and holds a PhD in Administrative Sciences in the University Antonio de Nebrija, Spain. His actual position is Academic Director for Entrepreneurship in Tecnológico de Monterrey Presidency, responsible for reinventing entrepreneurship and innovation education in the 31 campuses of Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Luis Miguel Beristain Hernández is a student, practitioner and teacher of entrepreneurship, innovation and technology transfer. He has been co-founder of more than twenty companies throughout his career, supported more than six hundred entrepreneurs to realize their business vision and angel investor in twenty projects. His experience includes the chemical, textile, health services, informatics and, in recent years, medical engineering and biotechnology applied to health sectors. He has served as a leading consultant in more than 18 companies, specializing in “rescuing companies in crisis.” He has various publications in national and international refereed journals, as well as the publication of several book chapters, always with the topics of product innovation, organizational innovation, intellectual property, technology transfer, evaluation and technology valuation. He was recently appointed Director of the Eugenio Garza Lagüera Entrepreneurship Institute of the South Zone of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, an institution where for more than twenty-five years he has worked as a professor and occupied various positions in the Mexico City Region as Director of the Entrepreneurship Institute; at the Mexico City Campus as Director of the School of Medicine and Life Sciences, Director of the Science in Life Technology Park, Director of the Entrepreneurship Division, Director of the Division of Health Sciences, Director of Academic Support, Director of Liaison, and Director of Administration and Finance. He was also Division Director and General Director of the Central Campus of Veracruz. He holds a Ph.D. in Administrative Sciences from the Tecnológico de Monterrey, a Master's in Business Administration from the Pan-American Institute of Senior Business Management and a Bachelor in International Relations from the Universidad de las Américas-Puebla.
