Description & Coverage
Description:

Though in the past online learning was considered of poorer professional quality than classroom learning, it has become a useful and, in some cases, vital tool for promoting the inclusivity of education. Some of its benefits include allowing greater accessibility to educational resources previously unattainable by those in rural areas, and in current times, it has proven to be a critical asset as universities shut down due to natural disasters and pandemics. Examining the current state of distance learning and determining online assessment tools and processes that can enhance the online learning experience are clearly crucial for the advancement of modern education.

The Handbook of Research on Determining the Reliability of Online Assessment and Distance Learning is a collection of pioneering investigations on the methods and applications of digital technologies in the realm of education. It provides a clear and extensive analysis of issues regarding online learning while also offering frameworks to solve these addressed problems. Moreover, the book reviews and evaluates the present and intended future of distance learning, focusing on the societal and employer perspective versus the academic proposals. While highlighting topics including hybrid teaching, blended learning, and telelearning, this book is ideally designed for teachers, academicians, researchers, educational administrators, and students.

Editor/Author Biographies

Ana S. Moura is passionate about Sciences, Education, Arts, and Literature. She has kept a research publication track in several areas, from Biomedical/Biomedicine topics to Nanotechnology, while being a published author of speculative fiction, namely on the fields of Alternate History and Science Fiction, under the pen name AMP Rodriguez. Founding member of ‘Invicta Imaginaria’, she also co-coordinated the first anthology of a new speculative fiction subgenre, the Winepunk, released in February of 2019. Prior to becoming a published author of speculative fiction, she was already an author of elementary and high school handbooks in the areas of Physicochemical studies, the latter within the context of national exam preparation. She is currently researching computational tools for eco and cytotoxicity prediction, namely within the context of quantitative structure-activity/toxicity relationships (QSAR/QSTR), as well as transversal fields, such as medical social networks, or the interfaces between philosophy, sociology, public policies and theoretical chemistry, having presented the first results of this latter research in the II International Conferences of Pathologies and Dysfunctions of Democracy in the Media Context (2018), with the works ‘Educational Superavit: Human rights versus Education Policies’ and ‘The Right be Human: enhanced drug-induced neurocapacity and the impending arrival of real-life ‘exomental’ dystopias’.

Pedro Reis is Associate Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences at University Fernando Pessoa (Porto, Portugal) and Head of the e-Learning Department UFP-UV (Virtual University). He is co-founder of the Center for Studies on Computer Text and Cyberliterature and co-director of the journal Cibertextualidades (Edições UFP). He holds a PhD from the University of Lisbon and a post-doctorate in e-Learning and Educational Technologies from Nova Southeastern University (NSU) (Florida, USA). He is consultant to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA, United Nations, Vienna) in the area of e -Learning and Educational Technologies. He has published several books and articles on Cyberculture, Digital Literature, e-Learning and Educational Technologies.

M. Natália D. S. Cordeiro is an Associate Professor of Theoretical Chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto (Portugal). The research of her group covers a wide variety of problems ranging from nanomaterials to catalysis, including drug/materials design and medicinal applications. Equally varied as the research topics are the methods employed to study them, which involve molecular simulations as quantum-mechanical calculations and even machine learning tools. She is the author of 300+ SCI works and of 15+ book chapters.
