Editor/Author Biographies
Dr. Jorge Cardoso joined the University of Madeira (Portugal) in March 2003. He previously gave lectures at University of Georgia (USA) and at the Instituto Politécnico de Leiria (Portugal). Dr. Cardoso received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Georgia in 2002. While at the University of Georgia, he was a part of the LSDIS Lab. where he did extensive research on workflow management systems. He received his M. Sc. and B. Sc. also in Computer Science from the University of Coimbra (Portugal). In 1999, he worked at the Boeing Company on enterprise application integration. Dr. Cardoso was the co-organizer and co-chair of the First, Second, and Third International Workshop on Semantic and Dynamic Web Processes. He has published over 60 refereed papers in the areas of workflow management systems, Semantic Web, and related fields. He has also edited 3 books on Semantic Web and Web services. Prior to joining the University of Georgia, he worked for two years at CCG, Zentrum für Graphische Datenverarbeitung, where is did research on Computer Supported Cooperative Work.
Wil van der Aalst is a full professor of information systems at the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (the Netherlands). Currently he is also an adjunct professor at Queensland University of Technology (Australia) working within the BPM group there. His research interests include workflow management, process mining, Petri nets, business process management, process modeling, and process analysis. Wil van der Aalst has published more than 70 journal papers, 12 books (as author or editor), 200 refereed conference publications, and 20 book chapters. He has been a co-chair of many conferences including the International Conference on Cooperative Information Systems, the International Conference on the Application and Theory of Petri Nets, and the Business Process Management Conference, and is an editor/member of the editorial board of several journals, including the Business Process Management Journal, the International Journal of Business Process Integration and Management, the International Journal on Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems Architectures, and Computers in Industry.
