Introduction

Many organizations are adopting GHRM as a novel strategy to enhance competitiveness in today's globalized world. This emerging field within HRM represents a profound aspect of organizational management. Its relevance is growing across various sectors, captivating the interest of managers from diverse fields, regardless of their specialization. In the context of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), it is imperative to recognize and embrace the significance of GHRM. To bolster their competitiveness, HEIs should prioritize the management of human resources with a focus on environmental performance. GHRM is a relatively recent phenomenon in both academic discourse and practical HRM applications, as elucidated by Opatha and Hewapathirana in 2019. It has evolved into a central business strategy for organizations. The essence of Green HRM lies in creating workplaces that not only minimize costs but also foster environmentally friendly behaviors among employees. Moreover, it plays a pivotal role in enhancing an organization's brand image and facilitating the implementation of ISO 14000 standards. By aligning human resource practices with environmental considerations, GHRM contributes to the overall sustainability and success of organizations in the modern business landscape.
