Challenges of Academic Library Management in Developing Countries

Intended for academic librarians, this collection explores the function of academic libraries in the digital age, the role of universal access to print and electronic resources, and the challenges facing academic libraries in developing countries. The opening paper reports the results of a student survey conducted at five Indian universities about their information resources, facilities, and services. Other topics of the 21 papers include online journal access by medical practitioners in Tamilnadu, e-resource management at colleges in Tanzania, open access initiatives in Africa, internet policy issues, security measures, and social networking opportunities.

While geared toward and based in developing countries, the lessons learned can be of use in other nations as well, such as security challenges, social networking, access to and use of e-resources, and open-access initiatives.
