International contributors provide case studies and perspectives from around the world, describing the development of elementary, secondary, university, and adult education programs in areas such as watershed literacy and green chemistry, and the use of sustainable materials and methods in education, such as electronic textbooks. Considerable attention is paid to the importance of generating social awareness among diverse production and consumer groups in both urban and rural areas in developed and less-developed countries. Some specific topics discussed include sustainability in photography, higher education in East Timor, environmental education in Nova Scotia's 6th grade curriculum, designing sustainability curricula in chemical engineering, the role of synchronous e-learning in rural sustainability, and sustainable development through education in Cambodia.
