Throughout the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many individuals and communities have found it difficult to access necessary digital technologies and critical information regarding health and safety. This has led to digital inequity within underprivileged groups as well as an increase in misinformation regarding COVID-19. The roles of social justice and civic engagement are integral to the facilitation of health and wellness literacy for all. The overall goal of libraries, archives, and museums is to foster an individual user’s intellectual growth. This is facilitated by advocacy for social justice, civic engagement, and outreach for cross-cultural competency. The ability of libraries, archives, and museums to offer these services is essential for the overall health and wellbeing of individuals and their communities.

The Handbook of Research on the Role of Libraries, Archives, and Museums in Achieving Civic Engagement and Social Justice in Smart Cities analyzes the emerging role of cultural and heritage institutions, libraries, archives, and museums in utilizing digital literacy skills to help the marginalized and minoritized. This title explores the concept of community-led library and museum services in order to understand relationships between libraries, archives, museums, and communities. In his book, Dr. Taher introduces new perspectives on library and museum services, and examines ways to utilize tools and techniques within library archives and museum literacy to achieve social justice and civic engagement.
